Brief Biography
Dr. Sandeep Sahu is an Assistant Professor in the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at IIT Mandi. His research spans additive manufacturing, severe plastic deformation, and grain boundary engineering, with a focus on designing processing pathways that tailor microstructures and improve the mechanical and corrosion performance of advanced metallic alloys.
He leads the Advanced Materials Processing Laboratory (AMPL) at IIT Mandi, where his group investigates process–structure–property relationships in stainless steels, Ni-based superalloys, Al and Mg alloys, Cu alloys, and multi-material AM components. His work combines high-pressure torsion, thermomechanical treatments, laser powder bed fusion, and advanced characterization tools such as EBSD/TKD, SEM/EDS, and XRD. He also established the Mechanical Behaviour of Materials UG Laboratory at IIT Mandi.
Prior to joining IIT Mandi, he served as a Scientist and Assistant Professor at CSIR–CSIO Chandigarh, as a Royal Society Newton International Fellow at the University of Southampton, UK, as a Research Associate at DRDO-DMSRDE Kanpur, and IIT Kanpur.
